Dump nuclear waste plans: Greens

Media Release
Sarah Hanson-Young 25 Sep 2018

The Coalition Government must abandon its plans to dump nuclear waste in South Australia, not extend their consultation process, the Greens say.

“The Coalition Government will just continue extending its deadline in the hopes it will finally get the answer it wants on dumping nuclear waste in outback South Australia,” Greens nuclear spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“The Coalition Government has botched its so-called consultation and community vote from the start. In a desperate attempt to get a run on the board, the Adnyamathanha and Barngarla people have been sidelined and communities have been manipulated.

“This plan locks generations of South Australians to nuclear waste. We are proud of our clean, green agriculture industry and beautiful natural environment, and it must be protected.

“The Flinders Ranges is one of the jewels in South Australia’s tourism crown – that would be lost if it is turned into a nuclear waste dump.

“It’s time the Coalition Government dropped its plans to dump nuclear waste in South Australia. The Greens are proud to stand with South Australians against this dump.”
